1989
The Rev. Philip S. Peacock was called to our church upon graduation from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary at Wake Forest, North Carolina. He accepted the call after his trial sermon on Father's Day of 1989. He officially started on July 16, the same week as Vacation Bible School.
WMU held 2 Successful yard sales for the first time in the Spring and the Fall to benefit the church family by purchasing a new copier for the office. Trees were also trimmed and plans were in the works for our new addition.
Our budget for the year was $38,784.

1990
A Strategy Committee was formed to explore the spiritual growth of our church and community. This prepared our church for a visioning session held at Graves Mountain Lodge on March 24th with the help of Rev. Darden Battle, Director of Missions for the Albemarle Baptist Association. As part of the result of this meeting the church led services at Evergreene Nursing Home one Wednesday each month and started a community visitation program. Rod Early was endorsed to go on a mission trip to the Phillipines with Campus Crusade for Christ through the University of Virginia.
A Spring Revival was held in April with Rev. Billy Ray Peacock, director of the Foreign Mission Board of the Baptist General Assembly, bringing the messages. A successful Vacation Bible was held in July with an attendance of
By September, our church had unanimously approved official plans for the new addition of an Education / Fellowship Hall to include 5 new classrooms upstairs along with 2 new bathrooms, a new stairway and entranceway with the older classrooms upstairs being remodeled as a Church Library and Choir Room. The lower level was to include a remodeled Youth and Activity Room, a fellowship hall seating 150 with a fully equipped kitchen, and two storage closets.
The Fall Revival consisted of a World Missions Conference where Missionaries from different localities around the World came and spoke to the different churches in the Albemarle Baptist Association (ABA).
Our Church Clerk of 45 years, Mary Melone, retired and on September 20, was presented with a certificate and a Bible for her years of loyal service.
Our budget for the year was $41, 117. Our high Attendance Sunday of 55 was held on September 9th. The ABA celebrated 200 years of service at First Baptist Church, Park Street on October 29 - 30, by having the delegates dress in period costume of the Roaring Twenties.
For the first time, Applebutter Making was held in our new Fellowship Hall in October to benefit the WMU and Youth Programs.
By November, our church was breaking ground for the new Educational Addition. The Ground Breaking Ceremony was held on November 11th.

1991 Our Church started using the Church Council as the major form of leadership within the church body. Representatives originally included the Pastor, Chairman of the Deacons, Church Clerk, Church Treasurer, Chairman of Buildings and Grounds, Moderator, Music Director, WMU Director and a member at large. As part of the growth of the spirituality of our congregation the Sunday School program used the Survival Kit for New Christians for the first quarter for both the youth and the adults.
Small Steps Preschool, under the leadership of Linda Thompson, began to use our new Fellowship Hall to teach preschoolers four mornings a week with a reimbursement to the church in the amount of $100 per month.
1991 was a very busy and active year. Youth Programming included: Youth Sunday on April 28th, a Lock-In in May, Vacation Bible School in July with 67 attending, Rollerskating in July and the ABA Softball Season. We held a revival in May, a Dedication of the New Building in June, a Homecoming Service on October 6 had an attendance of 200, and a Christmas Cantata presented by the Adult Choir in December. Second Sunday Nights of each month were designated as Family Night beginning with a supper at 6:30 pm and meetings and programs for the children, the youth, the men and the WMU. Also, our Church participated by sending messengers to both the Spring and the Fall Albemarle Baptist Association meetings and the Virginia Baptist Meeting in November.
Our budget for the year was $43,785 and Average Sunday School Attendance of 31. The total cost of the building project was $108, 734.

1992
Job Descriptions for Church Leaders and Committees were completed and distributed to the workers stressing faithfulness in attendance. Strengthening the Family Seminars were planned. WMU raised money using Yardsales, Bakesales and Applebutter Sales to build the cabinets for the Library Media Center, which were installed by Craig Estes.
We sent messengers once again to the Spring and Fall Associational Meetings and 3 messengers, Phil Peacock, Graydon Lamb and Sandra Sullivan were elected to go the Baptist General Association of Virginia Meeting in Virginia Beach.
Activities included: Hayride (78 people) in October at Benny Buckner's Farm followed the next day with 75 in attendance for High Attendance Sunday, Collected money $162 for the World Hunger Offering using family rice bowls, Revival with Rev. Irvin Hasty from the Baptist Foreign Mission Board Evangelism and Church Growth, Mexico Partnerships, Vacation Bible (104, a huge increase in attendance) was directed by Marida Lamb, Three special lay Sundays were planned - for the Youth, the Men and the WMU Focus Sunday, Ollie Gilbert Sandra Sullivan and Ruth Moore started working with the pastor to create a Church Constitution , Our first Easter Egg Hunt was to be held at South River Picnic Grounds on April 11 and our first church Directory was produced.
The WMU, through various fundraising efforts, provided the Church Kitchen with a new refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave open, range hood, and service for 120 including iron stone dishes, glasses and silverware. A telephone extension was added to the Kitchen to assist Small Steps Preschool.
On August 13th, the Church Commissioned Rod Early to Wycliffe Bible Translators and supported him financially several times during the year.
Our budget for the year was $43,785.44 and the Average Sunday School Attendance was 49.

1993
The WMU provided a meal for the BSU Students at the University of Virginia before their regular meeting in February and also had WMU Focus on the 14th. The new closets in Library were finished and Phil built cabinets in choir room. The church was invited to go rollerskating in Culpeper on February 28. The first Youth Cake Auction took place on march 14 with one cake bringing an incredible $50.00 - proceeds were to go to the Youth Centrifuge trip in June. The ABA office was to move to new building and requested funds. ABA also sponsored a Single Adult Dinner and Concert. A Sunday School Workshop was held at Eagle Eyrie and a visit to the foreign Mission Board in Richmond.
After Youth Sunday on March 21, the Youth involved went and enjoyed fellowship together over pizza and bowling. Easter Activities started with a Palm Sunday Celebration April 4, continued with the Easter Egg Hunt and Fellowship on Saturday and the First Sunrise Service to be held at Marsha and Harold Shifflett's home followed by a covered dish breakfast. The church voted to send messengers to the ABA and Fall Meetings and to give Derek Rhodes $100 for his Summer Mission trip to Russia. He later gave a presentation on his experiences on October 17.
A Family Enrichment Weekend was held at the church April 16-18 and 4 couples attended the Pastor Deacon Retreat held at Eagle Eyrie on April 30 - May 1. Other activities throughout the year included: Mission Kids Camping Trips, Saturday Softball Games, Car Wash/Bake Sale and Men's Workday in May, ABA Church Picnic in June, Softball Tournament on July 21 and a July Baby Dedication.
The Youth experienced significant spiritual growth from their experiences at Centrifuge June 26- July 2 and was attended by Sandy Rhodes, Jean Hartman, Jennifer Shifflett, Holly Roach, Laura Gilbert and Evelyn Coleman. Under the direction of Marida Lamb, VBS was held July 11-16 followed by a VBS picnic at Green Mountain Lake on Sunday the 18th, rollerskating the next week. The youth also attended the Youth Evangelism Conference (YEC) in Richmond on August 5-7.
Summer WMU Mission projects - Items to fill 22 Hygiene Bags and 35 School kits were collected and distributed to migrant workers in the area. WMU also held a Church-wide Yardsale on September 11. Children's Church was limited to ages 3 years old through 2nd grade. In September Greene County Singers again began to prepare for their Christmas concert using our sanctuary for rehearsal.
Sunday School sponsored a Hay Ride followed the next day by a High Attendance Sunday including a 65th Anniversary Celebration on October 2nd and 3rd. $365 was collected using the rice bowls for the World Hunger Offering. On October 22-23, Applebutter Making, a time of fellowship and a lot of work, was again held at the church. Preschool and Church-wide Fall Fest for Kids was in November and the choir Cantata Worship Service, Children's program and Student Day at Christmas all took place in December.
Our church rejoiced with Rev. Peacock in his marriage to amber Lynette Rhodes on Friday, November 26, 1993 at 7pm. A Reception was given by the church family in the church fellowship hall immediately following the ceremony.

1994 Close to the beginning of this year, the Church was burglarized with the equipment eventually being recovered and the police suggesting locking certain rooms like the copier and library rooms.
Mission Kids had a winter Lock-in at the end of January. In February the ladies led the service for WMU Focus Sunday, February 13 and served dinner to the BSU students at UVA on the 24th. The church again went rollerskating in Culpeper in February, shared with the Youth for Youth Sunday on March 13th and sponsored a Youth Retreat to Camp Alkulana March 18-20 where the group went caving.
Continuing the tradition, the yearly Easter Egg Hunt was on the Saturday before Easter followed the next morning by a Sunrise service at Marsha, Harold and Mandy Shifflett's. High Attendance Sunday was on April 17, to start off the Church Bible Conference Revival running through the 20th. The Pastor Deacon / Wives Retreat was again held at Eagle Eyrie at the end of April.
WMU again hosted Church-wide yardsales in May and October. On June 3-4 Mission Kids has a sleepover at Shenandoaqh Crossing. The World Missions Conference took place on September 25 with Doris Rudd as a speaker. Applebutter Making was a successful venture with two kettles being produced and sold to raise around $1,100 that was split equally between the youth and the WMU.
From June 19 through July 31, our Church responded to the Hope for Hurting Humanity Projects with the Thomas and Macey Home Projects and Health air at the Church. VBS was again held in July followed by the Church picnic on July 17. Rollerskating and Softball continued to provide opportunities for the young at heart to enjoy fun and fellowship. The Youth again attended YEC (Youth Evangelism Conference) at King's Dominion in Richmond on August 11-13.
A Baptism Service was held on September 21 preceded by a New Members class. We kicked off our Sunday School year on October 2 with a High Attendance Sunday and a fellowship Supper followed by a Youth Cake Auction which raised $340 for Youth Programs. The Raise the Roof Dinner and Meeting was held on October 9th to raise money to replace the sanctuary roof with a substantial amount being pledged in advance. Applebutter Making was held October 21-22 and was coordinated by Rodrick Rhodes and Marida Lamb. A Fall Fest was held November 12th. Christmas Performances by the adult choir in the morning.
Messengers were again sent to the Spring and Fall ABA meeting ad Phil, Amber and Sandra went to BGAV in Salem. Family Night Supper and meetings continue on 2nd Sundays. Linda Thompson takes a sabbatical from Preschool to Direct but not teach. Trips were made to see Passion Play and the Singing Christmas Tree. This year, it was decied that for VBS we would write our own material and used the money saved for the craft program. It was also decided that the Youth would attend Centrifuge on alternating years with this year retreats to Camp Alkulana in March and YEC in August. 397 books were cataloged for library, the church music closet created, and te World Hunger Offering was collected again using the rice bowls.

1995
A new Roof Paid completed at cost of $10, 225. Bell tower louvers replaced at $400 due to weather damage. In April, at Shenandoah Springs in Madison, a Strategy Planning and Church-wide Retreat was held in place of a Spring Revival. Small Steps expanded to include Kindergarten and additional space was used including upstairs classrooms. 7 Messengers were sent to the ABA Spring meeting. Jeff Cranford was hired as the new Director for ABA and spoke at our church in October. Choir began in October with Ramona Eddins and Ronda Reed directing.
The Associational WMU Meeting was held at our church on October 8. A milestone in out history took place February 1995, when the Food Pantry serving approximately 45 families was started using start up funds in the amount of $1000 from the Association and $256 from Chestnut Grove Church.
The outside of the Church was painted by the membership. A Flood Relief Fund in the amount of approximately $1000 was established to help local flood victims. High Attendance Sunday was held on September 24 with 76 present. A Visitation committee was started. The Church votes to lock church building when new front doors were installed.
Messengers were sent to the ABA Fall Meting on October 26, and to the BGAV (Phil and Amber Peacock, Sandra Sullivan). Also in October, Rodrick and Marida Coordinated the annual Aplebutter Making event with 85 gallons made, netting $1080 which was split between the WMU and Youth. The church allowed a local Brownie Troop to use the church with 7-10 girls weekly. Transition Church was established once a month in preparation for Sunday Morning Worship. December 16 was Christmas Caroling. WMU purchased new computer for church office.

1996 Greene County Singers and the local Brownie Troop continued to use our facilities during 1996. Discipleship Training Classes began in the spring with "Experiencing God", led by the pastor, Phil Peacock, in the fall with "Making Love Last Forever", a marriage enrichment class by Rev. Peacock and "The Mind of Christ" by Terri Jenkins. The New Church Directory was delivered in June. Church was thoughly cleaned and repainted in June. After the damaging flood in the summer of 1996, a Flood Relief fund was set up, collected $805 and was distributed to the flood victims. A New Director of Mission for the Albemarle Baptist Association, Jeff Cranford, was hired. October 6th was High Attendance Sunday with a goal of 100. Upon reaching this goal, Deacons agreed to prepare breakfast for the church at a later time. Applebutter Making was held on October 25 - 26. Once again messengers were sent to Spring and Fall Associational Meetings and to the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) Meeting in Richmond. The Adult Choir once again performed a Christmas Cantata during the worship service in December.
At the December business meeting it was decided that the $5,000 surplus in our general operating account should be applied to the principal of the Educational / Fellowship Addition. In memory of Ora Melone, long time member, $344 was given and then used to beautify the vestibule.

1997
Monthly Meetings at Evergeene were discontinued in July with the possibility of special Easter and Christmas Services. The Sunshine Sisters are now meeting once a month. Second Sunday of each month was Family night with the Youth serving spaghetti dinners to help raise money for their activities. In March, a church-wide retreat was held at Camp Alkulana, led by the pastor. Easter activities included an Easter Egg Hunt / Cookout on Saturday and a Sunrise service on Sunday morning.
In May, The Greene County Ministerial Association began having a Songfest to raise money for the local benevolent fund. Carol Dudding, after her medical mission trip to Panama, presented a program to the church on May 27 after a covered dish dinner. A Baptism service was held at Middle River with Jamie Heflin and Mary Beth Oliver joining our congregation. Vacation Bible School took place July 6 - 11, smaller than normal with no Youth class offered. The doors of the church were locked for the first time in April. Elected messengers were sent to the spring and fall Meetings of the ABA, and the annual meeting of the BGAV.
On May 27th, Rev. Ogilvie and his family from Panama presented at our church during the Associational Week of Prayer.
In September, a Welcoming Family Introduction was done at the start of each worship service. The family would introduce themselves, tell what the church meant to them and encourage visitors to fill out a welcome card. $300 was approved to provide small gifts of appreciate to employees of the Green County Educational System. On October 25th in conjunction with Small Steps Preschool a Fall Fest was held. In November, a hayride and pig roast were enjoyed by all.
Another Discipleship Training Class, "Spritual Gifts" led by the pastor was offered in the fall. A Renovation Committee was formed to decide on new colors for the Sanctuary. The Sanctuary was painted using antique white with bright white ceiling and trim at a total cost of $2,208.00. At the same time two rows of recessed lighting were added lengthwise down the ceiling.
A Copyright License Agreement was signed at a cost of $88 a year to allow for copying of most music for use in a church service. Our budget was $58,625.00.

The Interim - 1998 In January, the Discipleship Training class that was offered was "Witnessing Through Your Relationships". Baptist Men's Day was held on January 25 and Women's Day on February 28. March 13 - 15 Senior High Weekend was held at Eagle Eyrie with our Youth attending and then shared on Youth Sunday, March 22. A Velntine's Banquet was held on February 14 and Rollerskating on the 28th. Easter activities again included an Easter Egg Hunt on April 11 and Sunrise service with breakfast on April 12. June 7 was to be new Sunday School Promotion Day.
Franklin Graham Festival at University Hall in Charlottesville - May 1 - 3 had a great impact on our church. Oct 4 - 70th Anniversary Celebration / Homecoming
