1999 - 2002


1999

By April, The transitional Committee had nominated and the congregation had elected the following members of the Pastor Search Committee: Larry Dudding, Graydon Lamb, Rodrick Rhodes, Sandra Sullivan and Charlotte Gilbert, chair.

A Church wide Yard Sale, netting over $800 to benefit the food pantry, was held in May with the help of the men to set up. The Constitution Committee; consisting of Ramona Eddins, Laura Gilbert, Ruth Moore, Linda Thompson and Sandra Sullivan, chari, presented our first Church Constitution for approval. It was adopted at the Summer Business Meeting. In June, Rodrick Rhodes donated a large paper stained glass pieces of art work to hang above the stairway to the fellowship hall.

Jake Haught and Graydon Lamb were nominated and then ordained on August 29th at a Special Ordination Service led by rev. Robert L. Woodson, Sr. and Rev. David Cheyne.

In September, the Pastor Search committee traveled to Drakesboro, Kentucky to interview Rev. C. David Flack, JR. He was then invited to our Fall Festival Weekend, held on October 1-3, for everyone to get acquainted. On Sunday, October the 3rd, he brought his trial sermon. After a fellowship luncheon followed by a question and answer session, the Pastor Search Committee recommended him as our pastor. After discussion and a ballot vote, Rev. C. David Flack, JR. was chosen and would be available beginning on November 21, 1999.

Linda Thompson sold Small Steps Preschool to Mary Taylor for the school year starting in 1999. The Monthly donation was $160 rental plus copies.

During October, Double Light Brass Sconces to match the Chandelier replaced the older lights on the walls of the sanctuary. Messengers were again sent to the Spring and Fall Meetings of the ABA and also to the BGAV in Richmond. Linda Thompson let the children in producing a Christmas play while Carol Dudding worked with the Youth to run the Bingo at Evergreene, to assist in the children's lock-in and to stage a live nativity scene during the Food Pantry distribution in December. Budget for the Year: $65,404.

2000

During this year, the church voted to purchase additional property, consisting of 2.25 acres behind and adjacent to the church including two storage buildings from Jake and Debbie Haught at the price of $40,000, with a $15,000 down payment financed over 5 years at 7.5% interest equaling a payment in the amount of 4500.94 a month.

On February 6, 000, an Installation Service was held. Led by Dr. Charles Bugg of Richmond Theological Seminary along with special guests: Rev. Robert L. Woodson, SR., Jeff Cranford and Liz Emery. For the first time the Church participated in a Pastor- Church Covenant.

In February and March, the following fellowship activities were held: A Valentines Banquet, a Fiesta night, a Talent Show and a Family Game Night. The Youth again held a Spaghetti dinner and cake auction, netting $600 for the youth program. WMMU collected items to fill School Packs for Migrant Children and Snack Packs for the Baptist Student unions (BSU) at UVa. Proceeds from the WMU Yard Sale and a Hospitality Nursery Shower were used to purchase stackable cribs and other nursery necessities. At this time a door was created to connect the nursery and the toddler classroom.

During the year two Baby Dedications were held including Kurt & Junior Lamb, Camden Schwarting, Will Shifflett, Ellie flack, Ali Eddins, Caleb Arritt and Chole Current.

In April, a new computer, a Dell Optiplex GX110, was purchased for the church office at a cost of $1,599 along with a Hewlett Packard Color Printer for $150. We hosted on Sunday November 19th, The Greene County Ministerial Association's Community Thanksgiving Service.

During a workday on September 16th the upstairs bathrooms, hallway and entranceway were painted, 2 ceiling fans were put up in the Ladies Classroom and the handicap ramp was installed at the front door. Family Fun at the Heavenly Acres was held on September 30th followed by High Attendance Sunday on October 1st, with an attendance of 79.

2001

A new office copier was purchased for $3,500 including a service contract. It was voted to hire a paid Nursery worker during Sunday morning services. Therese Eckenrode was hired and started in April. Small Steps Preschool increased donation to $175 including 300 copies. Supply cabinets for each sunday school class was purchased by the WMU. VBS was moved to an earlier time in the summer, held June 24-29. Future Church raised $900 to be used for GA Camp and other activities. Messengers Ruth Moore, Margaret Hope and Josh Schwarting attended the Spring ABA meeting.

A six mont pledge of $100 per month was given to Laura Gilbert to assist in her mission work with the North American Mission Board in New York City. A Memorial Scholarship Fund in the amount of $645 was forwarded to Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) in memory of Amber Hartman, who was killed as a result of a serious car accident in Fall of 2000. Terri Jenkins resigned due to her family moving to a new home in Waynesboro. Jake Haught also resigned his duties as Deacon and Sunday School Director.

On Father's Day, a breakfast was prepared by the ladies of the church and during the worship service there was a Capital Campaign Kickoff entitled "Inform the People, Trust that God will provide" that established the Josh Fund. Dr. Tim Boschen of the ABA led a Visioning/Strategic Planning Seminar July 27-29. At the July Business Meeting it was voted to pay off the balance due, $5,653, on the Education/Fellowship Hall Addition.

VBS had a record year with attendance with over 150 students and teachers enrolled and an offering in the amount of $392 which was distributed to the Greene County Ministerial Association and the Food Pantry.

Rev. Tom Helm led our Fall Revival on October 14-17. Rev. Flack and Graydon Lamb attended the BGAV meeting. Pete, Donald and Rodger Brill presented a check to purchase the new sound system for the church in memory of their parents, Cecil and Lillian Brill. The sound system including a sound board, 2 wall mounted speakers, a CD player, Cabinet and wiring was installed at a final cost of approximately $3,000. Ronda Reid and Linda Thompson produced the Children's Christmas Pageant in December.

Budget for the year: $86,815 with weekly average needed $1,665.

2002

The Men celebrated Baptist Men's day on January 27th. The Sunshine Sisters began to meet as a morning coffee group on the first Wednesday in February. Wednesday night Bible Study had a 6 week video study on Islam. February 24th was WMU Focus Sunday with Brenda Fogus bringing the message. Fellowship activities during the winter included Game Nights in January and February, Snow-tubing in March, a St. Patrick's Day Dinner following the worship service on March 17th, a Talent Show on April 26th. Church Clerk/Historian Sandra Sullivan and Music Director Ramona Eddins resigned at the Spring Business Meeting. In April a Church Paper Day was held to gather all information concerning the church in one place. Rev. Flack attended the spring meeting for the ABA at Spring Hill Baptist Church.

Church yard sale was held in May with the Sunshine Sisters and the Youth preparing baked goods and food for sale. Derek Rhodes brought a special message entitled "Mother" in honor of Mother's Day. On June 23rd, a Baby Dedication was held for Aaron Shifflett, Madeline Lamb and Katelyn Collier. VBS had an enrollment of 79.

Rev. Flack resigned effective August 11 to accept a position as a chaplain for hospice of the Piedmont. In September, Dr. Tim Boschen led our church in a Strategic Planning Session as we looked to the future. As a result of the church Business Meeting on October 23rd, Stanardsville Baptist chose not to renew the contract with Small Steps Preschool for the school year of 2003-2004 due to space constraints caused by the growth of the church and it's programs. The transitional Team consisting of Bruce Shifflett, Bill Anderson, Maggie Schwarting (replaced by Pamela Lamb in August of 2003 due to the Schwartings relocating to North Carolina), Donald Brill and Marida Lamb, chair was also voted on at the October Business Meeting.

In October, Dr. Charles Bugg of Richmond Theological Seminary brought the messages at our Fall revival in 2002. Building and Grounds accomplished the following: installed new carpeting in the sanctuary, installed a new front walk and landscaping, repaired the organ, repaired and repainted the front of the church and repaired and painted the Fellowship Hall roof.

The Children's Christmas Pageant was directed by Becky Anderson and Rodrick Rhodes.

Budget for the year:$86,840 with weekly average needed $1,670.

2003

WMU Focus Sunday had Marida Lamb to bring the message. The church decided at the January meeting to go with a regular interim pastor, selecting Rev. Leon Castle in May to fill the position. In January, the church voted to pay off the remaining balance of the land purchase loan. The Youth attended a retreat in Tennessee, January 18-20 with 12 youth and 4 adults, sponsored a Men's Cake Auction and Spaghetti dinner in January, a Valentine's Day Banquet in February, a community Baked Potato Dinner in March and attended YEC in August.

The Easter Celebration at the home of the Oliver's took place in April. There was no sunrise service this year. in april, the Sanctuary heating system had to be repaired. There was a Prayer and planning Supper on April 27th to present the results of the church survey.

VBS was held on June 22-27 with Rhonda Oliver, Director. Sunday School Material was changed from Life Way to David C. Cooke at the beginning of the new Sunday School year in September. A momentous occasion occurred when the source of the perpetual leak in the old fellowship hall was discovered and a repaired by Bobby Rhodes and pete Brill after many years of frustrated searches.

Rev. Leon castle is currently leading the church in a well attended Wednesday night Bible Study- A Survey of the Bible. Two new short-term Sunday School classes were started in October: The New Member Orientation Class taught by Rev. Castle and the Effective Parenting Class taught by Nancy Castle.

At the October Business Meeting it was decided the trees between the church and the parking area would be removed in preparation for the paving of the parking lot. The WMU proposed that new playground equipment be purchased from MWP supply at a cost of $1,300 from proceeds from the WMU Fall Yard Sale and former Sunshine Sisters Funds. A one-time love offering in the amount of $1,000 was to be given to the Central Virginia Baptist Association, formerly known as the Albemarle Baptist Association to help with a budget deficit.

A Revival / Homecoming / 75th Anniversary Celebration will be held October 19-23 with guest speaker Rev. Rodger Roller of Forest, Virginia. Special Music for the service to be provided by the Youth on Sunday Morning, Liberty Baptist choir on Sunday Evening, Spring Hill Baptist on Monday and our Adult choir on Wednesday. The Pastor Search Committee consisting of Josh Schwarting (replaced by Paige Shifflett in May), Graydon Lamb, Margaret Hope, Rhonda Oliver (replaced by Carol Dudding in August) and Ollie Gilbert as Chair began to prepare packages of church information to be sent to prospective pastor candidates.

So here we are in the present. Our church is once again in the process of seeking a new pastor. we stand on the promise that the Lord will provide for the needs of this faith community. We need only to look to him for support and guidance. We will continue to learn from the past and look forward to the future with hope, faith and love.
